Summer Camp 2019 - Day 2 - Camp Report

Day 2 started with the respective matrons knocking at the doors, at 5.00am, to wake up the children. The children were ready well in time, and went to the Annapoorneshwari hall, by 6.30, for their morning milk and were seated in the temple, punctually, by 7.00am, for the vedic chanting session led by Swamiji. Swamiji gave a small one-minute introductory talk about vedas and then started off with the chanting of ‘Medha sooktam’, guiding the children with the correct pronunciation and intonation. ‘Medha sooktam’ is specifically aimed at boosting/increasing the intellectual capacity and is obviously the perfect choice for these students.

Half an hour of vedic chanting was followed by half an hour of yoga, led by Shruti didi. The children were able to stretch out, warm up and perform many asanas, with ease.  They were given their yummy and filling breakfast at 8.00am.

9.30 am saw the children assemble in the temple for a chanting session led by Srijit bhaiya, Rajeev bhaiya and Monisha didi. After this,  Br. Sanatji, spoke to the children on the topic of Guru Parampara. He stressed on the importance of listening to the parents and teachers.

There was an interactive workshop conducted by Srikantji and Preethiji in the forenoon session, on the topic ‘focus on goals’. The session was a very interesting one and the buttermilk break, at 11.30am, was an instant coolant. The workshop stressed on the importance of having a consistent goal, need to view things at a macro level rather than getting caught with small issues and took the example of Hanuman crossing Lanka to explain the different type of barriers one would face while progressing towards his goals in life.

The children were served lunch at 1.00pm, after which there was free time till 4.00pm, after which children assembled in the temple for Swamiji’s session, the continuation of the previous day’s discourse on Sundarakanda. As expected, it was a very illuminating session and it goes without saying that it was an enthusiastic set of children who sat with utmost attention. Swamiji mentioned about how Hanuman was single pointed, in his focus and did not allow any thing to distract his mind, due to which he is revered as the God we know. He touched upon various qualities of Hanuman and how he used his intelligence to deal with each obstacle in a different one – one peacefully, one tactfully and one forcefully. Swamiji also gave tips on how to communicate effectively and how one’s ego battle can deviate us from our goals.

Children were given their milk and snacks at 5.00pm and their outdoor playtime was from 5.30-6.30pm, under the supervision of Rajeev. The children were seated in the temple by 6.30pm, and there was a bhajan session and arati, under the guidance of Srijit bhaiya, Priya didi, Rajiv bhaiya and Monisha Didi.

This was followed by indoor game of Dum Charades, for which the groups were scored. The topics for this game were the people and aspects/values, connected to Hanuman and Ramayana. It was a vibrant game, with a lot of fun for the children and the volunteers.

The children were served their dinner at 8.00pm and then, were left free to pursue their leisure activities, until bedtime at 10.00pm. It was seen that the camaraderie of the whole group of children was a lot more, when compared to yesterday, as they have started getting to know each other, a lot more now.
